Causes of Acne Scar
A scar is an area of fibrous tissue that replaces normal skin after an injury. Scars result from the biological process of wound repair in the skin whereby new collagen is laid down to heal the wound. It affects 30 % of those with moderate or severe acne problem.
Scars however, do not just affect people with acne but also happens in people who had accidents that rendered them to have keloid or hypertrophic scars.
The size and depth of the scar depends on the amount of inflammation in the acne. The greater amount of inflammation, the more likely a scar will occur. Some so-called acne scars are not actual scars but hyperpigmentation left behind by the inflammation. These discolorations usually fade after some time. Acne which are not treated are also likely to form scars.
